Accelerating the digitalisation of the water sector together
DigiShape has developed a new infographic that shows in one overview how partners and network contribute to digitization and innovation in the water sector.
In two pages, the infographic shows how DigiShape works, which themes are central and what impact will be achieved by 2025. This is not only about projects and meetings, but also about the role of collaboration, knowledge sharing and reusable digital building blocks within the sector.
Core activities
Since the start of DigiShape, the focus has been on connecting people, organizations, data and initiatives to enable joint digital solutions. Four core activities are central to this:
- pre-competitive cooperation;
- sharing models and data;
- capacity building;
- strategic networking.
This approach is reflected in various application areas within the water sector, including water management, water and logistics and spatial planning in the North Sea.
From meeting place to network where ideas take shape
The infographic also shows how DigiShape has developed in recent years from a network and meeting place to a platform where ideas actually move forward. Initiatives grow from initial exploration to concrete projects, broader collaborations and multi-year programmes. Connections are also increasingly being created between parties that would be less likely to find each other outside the network.
This is visible in initiatives such as:
- DigiShape Open Source Platform (D-OSP)
- OpenCLSim
- Beacon technology for fast access to marine data
- seedmoney projects such as KLIC at Sea, Digital Dike, PortVision, Explainable AI and Algorithmic Determination of Water Levels with Remote Sensing
Carrying out assignments together
DigiShape is also developing further on a tactical level. In 2025, DigiShape started an assignment from the TKI office on behalf of the TKI office on the Digitalization program line of the TKI Delta Technology. In this way, DigiShape continues to grow as a party that not only organizes knowledge sharing, but also helps shape and coordinate joint activities and programs.
Connecting role in the triple helix
In addition, DigiShape is increasingly involved in larger research and innovation proposals, for example on dissemination and knowledge sharing. The recent connection to initiatives such as DigiLab and the AI Impulse Program for water movement models shows how DigiShape is increasingly fulfilling a connecting role between government, knowledge institutions and market parties.
The results of 2025 and the plans for 2026 are also included in the infographic. In total, DigiShape organized ten meetings in 2025 on themes such as AI, data exchange, digital twins and open-source platforms. Together, these activities brought together professionals from more than forty organizations.
