Climate change requires agile, fast and well-founded water management. The AI Impulse Programme for Water Movement Models (AIWaM) is a collaboration between Rijkswaterstaat, Deltares, KNMI and DigiShape. It develops datasets and machine learning models for the RWS Main Water System (Rivers, IJsselmeer Region, Coast), with which (weather) scenarios can be calculated quickly operationally.

After the official start of AIWaM in 2025, we will organize a day around the state of the program on November 19, 2026. Together we look at the progress of the various models that are being developed within the program.

The winner of the Machine Learning Model challenge for Wave Parameters (see also this earlier post) will be announced. After the successful start in June, three parties are each working on a Proof of Concept, so that uncertainty information can also become operationally available in addition to the current SWAN model in RWsOS. The winner will also give a presentation and demonstration of their proof of concept.

After the success of the first challenge, the second will start soon, again via Tenderned. This time, RWS is looking for a digital assistant to help the water forecaster.

In addition, we are currently discussing various interesting sessions. The agenda and location will be announced soon. Keep your agenda free, more information will follow!
